The current asking price is unknown, but you can make an offer HERE
Here is a screen grab of the listing

With the closing of Suprnova and now this, it appears that bittorrent, at least in its current incarnation, is dying a slow painful death...
What makes this story interesting is that the site has been soliciting donations for the past couple of months in under the guise of helping with the cost of legal defence... I thought it sounded a little fishy too, but apparently it has been working because, according to their site, they have raised over $40k (earlier mistated as $60k). Whether those funds will be transferred to the new owners is a question only the current owner can answer.
One thing is for certain, you might want to think twice, no, think three times before you give them any money for "legal defence" since they are just going to up and leave.
Another interesting side note, what to do with the information provided by the users when registering? This would be a good oppourtunity for the MPAA or RIAA to get a hold of 700k different users without even going to court to try and wrangle the usernames and info out of the owners. All they would have to do is pay a small pittance to the owner of Lokitorrent and purchase the site. Any money spent in this manner could only be seen as a winning investment seeing as whatever the asking price for the site, it can only be cheaper than the legal fees involved.
When users, and even the moderators of their IRC channels, were told of the find, the result was total shock and suprise. Hopefully they will at least make some sort of annoucement to mitigate any potential damage to the userbase of Lokitorrent in case it is purchased by someone who is less likely to respect the privacy of its members.
As of right now, computersandjunk.com is the only site reporting this pending sale, which makes me feel pretty good and bad at the same time, I mean, how long can Lokitorrent go on asking for donations when they have no intention of keeping this site? I suggest that anyone planning on donating hold of until this is all sorted out.
Update:
Looks like Lokitorrents little secret is out as this message is now posted on their homepage:
"As some of you may have noticed (judging by the evil messages we've received!), we have posted the domain lokitorrent.com up for bidding at sedo.com. NO, this does not mean we are closing our doors and packing our things! I (Lowkee) simply wanted to know what kind of bids this website gets (as people keep telling me it's a 'gold mine'). ...That and it allows us to get free web stats (that normally cost $300/mo) by being listed on Sedo.
All I can say is WOW! We never thought so many people would be up in arms about a domain listing! Needless to say, we are not going away any time soon (not if we can help it), and you won't be homeless and without your own place on the net.
So, please stop the evil mail, as we are not leaving you, not closing our doors, and certainly not giving out your info (some of the rumors have gotten out of hand).
All we can say is... WOW. It's amazing how fast crazy stuff like this spreads.
Anyhow, back to normal torrent life. You can relax.
The Loki Team"
Looks like they got the hint that people get pretty upset when their privacy is threatend...
Let's hope that what they say is true, but it does bring up an interesting subject: What do sites do with your information when they're sold to other companies? Alot of sites are requiring signups now, and though they might have a respectable privacy policy, the person or people they are eventually sold to may not. Food for thought.
